CAUSE #1: CAPE Head Start – Lincoln Avenue Resiliency Fund
Protecting Children. Strengthening Our Community. Powering a More Resilient Future.
Every child deserves a safe place to learn, grow, and thrive.
At CAPE Head Start on Lincoln Avenue in Evansville, dedicated educators and staff work every day to provide early childhood education, family support services, health resources, and developmental opportunities to preschool children and their families. For many families, CAPE Head Start is more than a school—it is a vital community resource that helps children build the foundation for lifelong success.
Today, we have an opportunity to support that mission in a meaningful and lasting way.

Introducing the CAPE Head Start – Lincoln Avenue Resiliency Fund
The Solar is for Everyone initiative is proud to launch Cause #1: the CAPE Head Start – Lincoln Avenue Resiliency Fund.
Funds raised through this campaign will be used to install a solar energy and battery storage system at the CAPE Head Start facility on Lincoln Avenue.
This project is about much more than clean energy.
It is about protecting children.
It is about reducing operating costs for a nonprofit organization that serves our community.
And it is about ensuring that critical services remain available when they are needed most.
Why This Project Matters
Extreme weather events are becoming more common across the United States. Climate scientists project that communities throughout the Midwest will continue to experience more frequent and intense summer heat waves in the coming decades.
As temperatures rise, electrical grids face increasing stress from record energy demand. During severe heat events, power outages and grid disruptions become more likely.
For a facility that serves young children, losing power during extreme heat can create serious challenges.
Without electricity, air conditioning systems, refrigeration, lighting, communications, and essential building operations may be interrupted. For families who depend on CAPE Head Start services, these disruptions can have significant impacts.
A solar and battery storage system can help provide critical backup power during outages, allowing the facility to continue operating safely and effectively when the grid is unavailable.
The Power of Resilience
The proposed solar energy system will generate clean, renewable electricity throughout the year, reducing the facility's dependence on utility power and lowering monthly operating expenses.
The battery storage component will provide backup energy when the grid goes down, helping maintain critical functions and improving the facility's resilience during emergencies.
The result is a long-term investment that delivers benefits for decades:
- Reduced energy costs
- Improved emergency preparedness
- Greater protection during power outages
- More resources available for educational programs and family services
- Lower carbon emissions and environmental impact
- Increased community resilience
Every dollar saved on electricity can be redirected toward supporting children, families, and educational programs.
Investing in Children, Not Utility Bills
Nonprofit organizations often operate with limited budgets and growing demands for services.
When operating expenses rise, organizations are forced to make difficult choices about how resources are allocated.
By reducing long-term energy costs, this project helps CAPE Head Start dedicate more funding to what matters most—serving children and families.
Instead of spending those dollars on electricity, they can be invested back into classrooms, educational materials, family support services, nutrition programs, and other resources that directly benefit the children of our community.
